"The whole team at Valluga HQ should all feel very proud of what they always achieve .” - Nick Phelps
It was time for Valluga to head out for the last time at Snetterton Circuit for the season finale of the GT Cup Championship 2021. Nick and Carl were back out both days ready to race for the last time this season with Nick teaming up with Pro driver Dino Zamparelli and Carl back with Lewis Plato.
Saturday's free practice started well with Nick landing in 1st in class and Carl 3rd in class setting both drivers up to be confident in qualifying shortly after.
Qualifying results saw Nick hold his own with another 1st in class result for him and the team. Carlos went through to qualify 6th in class making it a positive morning all round for team Valluga.
It was time for the first 25 minute sprint race of the weekend and Nick was off to a great start and even set a fastest lap time. The conditions were wet adding an additional element to the race with multiple cars struggling but despite this Nick still finished firmly 1st in class setting in stone his GTB class win. Carl finished the race 8th in the GTH class.
With conditions still wet it was set to be a challenging pit-stop race later that day and cars still struggling to keep it on track there was a safety car deployed minutes into the race.
The safety car continued with the pit-lane opening soon ready for the driver swap to take place with conditions worsening as time went on. The safety car period ended but not for long with another safety car being deployed minutes after due to the weather worsening with 6 minutes to go until the pitlane opened.
The pitlane opened still under safety car conditions and Nick was the first car in with Dino ready to make the driver swap and shortly after Carl was in to do the same with Lewis and put back out still into safety car conditions.
With 14 minutes to go the race was eventually red flagged with Nick and Dino finishing 2nd in class and Carl and Lewis 6th in class.
It the final day of the GT Cup Championship and seemed hopefully better weather for what would be a full day of racing.
position of second in class still gaining all important points for the championship. Carl improved his qualifying result to finish 9th in classfor the sprint race.
First up was free practice as usual with Nick setting his day up nicely with a 1st in class position and Carl 9th. Qualifying was straight after the practice session and gave Nick a 1st in class starting position for race 1 and Carl 5th in class.
First up was the sprint race with both drivers in strong positions to start the track conditions were dry making a difference from the day before. Nick went on to finish 1st in class and Carl 6th.
The afternoon was bright and dry ready for the last 50 minute pit-stop race of the season with good starting positions for both Carl and Nick. Nick was ready to go putting in great lap times and securing another fastest lap time for the weekend before handing over to Dino who kept up the position for Nick finishing 1st in class. Carl finished 7th in class for the last time this season.
After the race we caught up with Nick to get his thoughts on his GTB class championship win,
"What a way to finish my first ever racing season! With an eventful week in business which caused me to have to pull out of this last round only on Wednesday to see the points shake up of the standings during Friday lunchtime meaning that my certainty of winning the class was now at risk, a call to Benji bearing in mind that the Friday test had by now already taken place, Benji’s reply on Friday evening was, “Never say no”.
Two very eventful races came and went Saturday, and Sunday brought the sun with it and we had two fantastic dry races to finish the season.
So, with three more [class] race wins and a second place, plus securing not one but two Championship wins also (GTB Class and the Sprint Race Championship), both myself and the whole team at Valluga Concierge can feel pleased about the season we have had and the results show it to have been so worthwhile. But more importantly the whole team at Valluga HQ should all feel very proud of what they always achieve.
Aside of the thanks I have for whole the team that is Valluga Concierge, I would especially like to thank Benji for all his wise words and sage advice throughout the year and the coaching advice I have received from Lewis, James, Sean and Dino. I would also like to thank my team mate Carl too as it has been a pleasure to spend weekends between races just chatting and bantering when time permitted."
