"It was good to be battling at the front and get the first podium of the season” - Lewis Plato
We were back for rounds 5 & 6 of the Porsche Carrera Cup at Oulton Park which did not disappoint.
Friday's day of free practice started off well even with the track conditions being wet Lewis put in the fastest lap of the whole session for FP1 which showed great pace for the team.
We spoke to Valluga’s Team Manager Benji Hetherington post-race to hear his thoughts on the weekend, “Finally... After a frustrating start to our Carrera Cup campaign it was a relief to finally get ourselves where we belong and on the podium.
Lewis drove brilliantly all weekend and save for a broken drive belt in FP2 which would have allowed the team to dial the car in a little better for race 1 we could have put two good races together.
Never the less - we have shown what our driver and also our car are capable of in race 2 when things go to plan.
Very much looking forward to Knockhill and the rest of the year."
Qualifying was to follow the next day with wet conditions again and with us missing out on FP2 due to a broken drive belt we had little practice in dry conditions to go into race 1.
Lewis put in some good times and finished qualifying in 5th for race 1 which would be in just a few hour's time.
The first race was held later that afternoon and saw Lewis fight to gain positions right until the last minute gaining a position on the last corner to finish 4th overall.
For race 2 we started 2nd due to a reversed grid which put us in a strong position to fight at the top from the beginning.
Lewis fought throughout the race to hold his position and doing so gained his first podium finishing 2nd in class gaining great points for the championship
When speaking to Lewis he said, "Overall a solid points weekend.
After having the belt snap in practice 2 we got limited running in the dry, which didn’t help our pace in race 1.
With some small setup changes for Sunday race, it was good to be battling at the front and get the first podium of the season".
We can’t wait to get back on track for rounds 7-8 of the Carrera Cup at Knockhill in a few weeks’ time.
